Craft Red Wine “Growler”, Sonoma County Red Wine

A jug wine? You might ask. Yea. Awesome jug wine. Our proprietary jug wine is named for our winemaker’s ancestors – the Mastrogiacomos, shortened to Mastro at Ellis Island, on his mother’s side, who immigrated to Fresno from Southern Italy in the early 1900s. We made this wine because jug wine is viewed in a negative light by pretty much everyone. We’re looking to change this perception by crafting a high-quality wine, then bottling it in a fun container – e.g. the “growler”. We debuted 120 jugs of Rosso in 2014 – and it sold out in two days.

So our owner and winemaker went back into the cellar and blended four more barrels for the remainder of the year and sold out again. The "Jug" is a limited production wine, bottled one barrel at a time.

The wine is 100% Sonoma County, sourcing from Dry Creek and Alexander Valley vineyard sites and made by our winemaker. While the dominant varietal in the Jug blend is Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Malbec have also been used.

IN THE GLASS, a pleasant nose of red fruits and hints of tobacco and caramel open the wine to a full palate of soft, but warm tannin. Never a “thin” wine, but rather a “generous” wine of spice and  blackberry with nuances of clove.
